David L. Barkey: Counsel for ADL (Anti-Defamation League): When Hateful Ideologies Lead to Hate Crimes, January 15, 2020

David joined ADL in 2001 and currently serves as its Senior & Southeastern Area Counsel, and National Religious Freedom Counsel.

In these positions, David provides legal and legislative counsel to three regional offices covering eight states on civil rights matters including, discrimination, bullying, extremism, and free speech.  He regularly trains law enforcement on hate crimes.

David also oversees ADL’s national religious freedom portfolio. His responsibilities include addressing complex and national issues relating to the separation of church and state, free exercise of religion, and religious discrimination.

Prior to joining ADL, David practiced law in New York City where he served as a Trial Attorney at the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and worked as an associate at Jackson Lewis.  He received his J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and B.A. from Northwestern University.  He is admitted to State Bars of Florida, Connecticut, and New York.
